 Art for the Orbis

ORTE is a name formed from two Latin words:
Orbis —the circle, the world, humanity—
Arte —art, craft, and refined mastery.

Orbis represents a world where cultures meet, connect like a circle, and resonate beyond borders.
It signifies a global vision and an enduring cycle of exchange.
Arte embodies not only artistic excellence, but a deep respect for the traditional music handed down through generations.
Rooted in reverence for heritage, it embraces the creativity that transforms tradition into new expression.

Through music, ORTE seeks to foster understanding beyond cultures and to nurture co-creation.
From this circle of respect and artistry, new sound and new possibility emerge—
carrying its spirit outward into the world.

ORTEは、ラテン語の

「ORBIS(地球、丸い、世界、人類)」と

「ARTE(芸術・高度な技能)」を融合させた造語です。

What Makes the ORTE Programme Unique?

ORTE is not simply an overseas study tour or a music experience programme.
It is an international cultural education programme designed to cultivate cultural understanding, sensitivity, creativity, and independent thinking through music. Here it explains how ORTE differs from conventional music education and overseas experience programmes.

I. A Different Educational Philosophy

Typical Music / Overseas Programmes

・ Experience-based activities (visits, lessons, performances)
・ Focus on skill development or memorable experiences
・ A collection of separate events

ORTE

・Designed around the formation of thought, understanding, and perspective through experience
・Music is treated as a “living language” for understanding culture
・Every activity is connected within one educational structure

→ ORTE is not simply an “event” — it is an educational model.

II. A Different Learning Structure

Typical Music / Overseas Programmes

・  Watching / listening / experiencing (primarily passive)
・  Understanding often remains momentary

ORTE

・Observation → Experience → Dialogue → Reflection → Sharing
・ A structure that moves continuously between thought and sensory experience
・ Emphasis on transforming experiences into one’s own words and understanding

→ ORTE is not only about “experiencing.”
 - It is carefully designed around the process through which genuine understanding emerges.

III. A Different Meaning of “World-Class”

Typical Music / Overseas Programmes

・ Visiting famous institutions or venues
・ The prestige of the place itself becomes the focus

ORTE

・Direct dialogue with people actively working at the forefront of culture and the arts
・ Understanding why these places and traditions exist
・ Encountering the ideas, history, dedication, and values behind them

→ ORTE prioritises encounters with people and ideas — not simply places.

V. A Different Educational Outcome

Typical Music / Overseas Programmes

・ The experience ends when the programme ends
・ Limited academic or educational recognition

ORTE

・Opportunity to work toward the UK-recognised Arts Award qualification
・Includes reflection, documentation, presentation, and creative response
・Learning becomes visible and internationally recognised

→ ORTE provides not only experiences,
but learning that remains as a tangible outcome.

VI. A Different Social Vision

Typical Music / Overseas Programmes

・ The experience remains personal

ORTE

・Participants share their experiences with peers
・Connection to the ORTE Young Ambassador programme
・Development of cultural exchange and educational sharing in Japan and internationally

→ ORTE is not simply individual education —
it is a model of cultural circulation and peer-to-peer learning.

ORTE does not aim to simply give young people “answers.”

Instead, it aims to cultivate the ability to:

・ask questions,
・feel deeply,
・think independently,
・understand others,
・and connect those experiences to the world around them.
